The Conscious Mother - Sara Mollie

The Beginning
Let's start from the beginning so we can really get to know each other. I was born & raised in Australia in a family that could be described as ‘alternative’, living in a way that prioritised emotional & spiritual health. When I was around 14, my mum began to place more focus on physical health too, bringing everything into balance.
Mind-body-soul connection. It shaped the woman I am today, the belief system I hold and how I choose to live my life and nurture/raise my family/children today.
Choosing a Conscious Lifestyle
In 2019, my Nan told me to prepare for the possibility to not be able to come home for a long time - because neither myself or my family were willing to vaccinate.
Shortly after the ‘global scamdemic’, spicy cough or covid kicked off, my first baby B came along. Becoming a mother allowed our lifestyle of conscious living to naturally unfold. My partner and I chose to gentle parent, live off the land (veggie garden, hunt, forage), choosing not to vaccinate and opted for low to non tox living as much as possible. Living consciously, but in a way that felt right for us.
Balancing Real Life
Before I continue, as you are reading this you may be thinking I've got conscious living all figured out and live by the 'conscious bible'. That couldn't be further from the truth. I don't believe in the all-or-nothing mentality. We still get takeaways, I yell when I’m overstimulated, we don't buy organic food if it's not in this week's budget and so on.
Although we prioritise a slower, healthier life, we also prioritise balance and living within our means with whatever stage of life we are in. Don’t get me wrong though, I do have non-negotiables like what we put on our skin and the products we use in our home.
Now that you have gotten to know me better, I’ll continue the story…
Motherhood & Survival Mode
After a traumatic birth with B, I found myself in survival mode with no family support and no friends to lean on. I spent the first year of his life, surviving not thriving. In Jan '24 I reached out to Emily Patterson, the creator of the Conscious Mothers Group WA, and asked if she wouldn’t mind me making a sister group here in Aotearoa.
Birthing a Conscious Community
It then took me another 2 months to gain the courage to actually do something about it. I needed to find my people; I know I wasn’t the only conscious mother who couldn’t find her village or didn’t know where to start.
And with that the Conscious Mothers Group NZ Facebook community was born.
What followed I could never have dreamed. The word spread. Mothers began finding each other, many finding themselves in a similar position I was. Now finding community and connection both online and in person.
I cried for days. I felt like this is what I was born to do. Connect people, support community and be a good villager.
Growth, Creation and New Projects
Since then, things have grown in the most beautiful organic way with a lot of new projects, inspired by the needs of mothers in the Conscious Mothers Group.
The most exciting one is the Homemakers & Crafters Swaps right here in the Waikato. We meet each month and bring homemade goodies to swap, connect over kai and in that we create a beautiful space to meet likeminded women.
I have also created a podcast on Spotify, ran an online store, hosted community events, and am currently developing products to support mothers in the pipeline.
The Heart Behind It All
So, at the heart of it all, this isn’t about living perfectly or doing everything “right.” It’s about connection, to ourselves, to our children, to the way we choose to live, but most importantly, to each other. This journey has never been about me. It’s about the mothers who find themselves in the same place I once was, searching for connection, for understanding, for something that feels like home. A space to be seen, to be supported, and to remember that there are others walking alongside you.
A Continuing Journey
While this is still growing, still softening, still becoming, one thing I know for sure is that when women come together with openness and intention, something truly magical happens.
And that’s what I hope to continue creating for myself, and for all the other mothers… including you, reading this today. 🤍
